Bikers Beware! Sunday night in Virginia Beach around 8:30 p.m. a driver turning on
Baker Street from Wesleyan Drive struck bicyclist Arielle Santiful. The accident induced life threatening injuries for Ms. Santiful. 20 year-old Arielle Santiful was heading east on Baker Street when she was struck by the vehicle; the vehicle made a legal stop at the intersection and attempted to turn on Baker Street when he hit Santiful. Unfortunately, the bicyclist was not wearing any reflective gear, did not have a light, and was not wearing a helmet. She was transported to the hospital immediately for her injuries.
According to reports, the driver was not injured. The
case remains under investigation and no charges have been pressed. Let this be a reminder for bikers to wear the necessary
safety gear during the day and night, and also for drivers to always be aware of their surroundings and who might be walking or traveling.
