Club Patron Sues After Slip on Spilled Drink

A woman in California was at a club dancing when she slipped on a drink that was spilled on the dance floor.  Her fall resulted in her fracturing her ankle, requiring surgery to implant a plate and screws.

This woman’s total medical expenses are approximately $108,000.  She sued the club, alleging it failed to clean the spill and negligently permitted patrons to bring their drinks onto the dance floor.

The defense argued that the danger was obvious and that the plaintiff was intoxicated at the time.  The parties settled the case after mediation for $350,000.

Some people do not realize when they are injured that someone can be held responsible for negligently contributing to the injury.
