Hampton Roads Drivers Are Cautioned About Texting While Driving

Hampton Roads drivers are finding themselves in a very technology advanced world, which has its positives and negatives. Many people are constantly surrounded by technology which can cause distractions. One huge distracter for Virginia drivers is texting. In Virginia, texting is illegal. However, authorities cannot pull a driver over for texting alone; texting is qualified as a secondary offense. However, if a driver is swerving or speeding while texting, police can pull a driver over for reckless driving such as swerving or speeding and then charge them with texting while driving along with the primary offense.

According to local reports, many Virginia State troopers see multiple distracted drivers while patrolling. Drivers are not only distracted by texting but also by talking on the phone, putting on make up, and even reading. When patrollers notice a swerving vehicle, most often the driver was distracted by one of these items. Local authorities have noticed a rise in automobile accidents, and they believe drivers trying to multi-task are the blame for many of these accidents. If you have been injured in an automobile accident, been the cause of an automobile accident, or have been charged with reckless driving, you should contact your local Hampton Roads personal injury and traffic attorney.
