High Speed Crash Claims One Man’s Life In Newport News

Driving at a high rate of speed has the potential to cause more harm and damage to both the driver and his or her vehicle in the event that an accident occurs. Drivers who speed are also much more likely to lose control of their vehicles and fail to safely react to sudden obstructions in the roadway. According to reports, speed was a likely factor in a Newport News car accident that claimed the life of one man and left another driver seriously injured.

The fatal car crash allegedly took place Tuesday night around 10pm on Warwick Boulevard in Newport News, Virginia. Local reports indicate that Lawrence McCross attempted to pass another vehicle on the roadway by pulling into the southbound lane. Unfortunately, McCross did not have enough time or clearance to return to his lane before he struck another vehicle.

Lawrence McCross was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in serious condition. Drivers can reduce their chances of being involved in a fatal collision by following posted speed limit signs, obeying Virginia's traffic rules, wearing a safety belt and focusing their attention to the task of driving.
