How many aggressive drivers do you see on the road every day?

Take a look around the next time you are driving and see if you can spot an aggressive driver.  It shouldn’t be hard, these days they seem to be everywhere.  They’re the one speeding down the road, weaving in and out of traffic, and honking when other drivers don’t get out of their way fast enough.

If seeing this kind of behavior on the road concerns you, well it should.  Some studies have estimated that over half of all fatal accidents can be attributed to aggressive driving.  And, like drunk driving accidents, it only takes one aggressive driver to cause a serious wreck with two or more vehicles that claims innocent victims.

But it isn’t just innocent victims being killed or seriously injured in aggressive driving accidents.  A recent study by the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety revealed some interesting statistics.  According to AAA, of nearly 120,000 killed in aggressive driving accidents, just over half were the aggressive drivers themselves.  Their passengers accounted for just over a quarter of all fatalities, and occupants of other vehicles made up for the rest.

What does this tell us?  Yes, aggressive drivers are a serious issue on the road.  However, the numbers tell us that aggressive drivers are mainly a danger to themselves and their passengers.  Keep this in mind if you spot an aggressive driver menacing your local roads – stay out of their way, and avoid engaging in dangerous driving yourself.
