How to Pay Your Virginia Traffic Ticket Online

If you received a traffic ticket in the Norfolk or Virginia Beach area, you should contact a knowledgeable local attorney even if you think that you may be guilty or at fault. By paying for your traffic ticket upfront, you are admitting guilt for purposes of the offense. The Commonwealth of Virginia issues demerit points against your driver record for most traffic offenses. Those points typically stay on your record for two years or more.  If you accumulate too many points, you may risk having your driver’s license suspended.

A traffic lawyer who understands the local and state traffic laws may be able to successfully defend your traffic ticket if the Commonwealth fails to support each of the elements of the traffic violation that they have cited you with. In some cases, even if your attorney cannot get your traffic ticket dropped, they may be able to have the ticket reduced to a lower offense that carries a smaller fine or fewer demerit points.

If you are found guilty of a Virginia traffic violation you will be required to pay your ticket within 15 days after the court hearing. You have several options for paying your ticket; however, one of the most convenient ways to pay your ticket is online through the Virginia Judicial System website. You can access the website by clicking here.

Once you are on the site, you will be directed to the General District Court Case Information System. The first thing that you will do is select your court from the drop down menu at the top of the page. This will be the court that is listed on your summons or citation. Next, type your name, beginning with your last name, in the box that is directly under the court selection menu and click on the “Search” option. A listing of relevant cases will be loaded. Click on the case that corresponds with your name and case number. You will be required to enter your credit card or bank account information into the system. Once your payment is processed, you should receive a payment confirmation, which you should print and keep for your records.
