Man Found Guilty for Fatal DUI Accident

The man responsible for the DUI crash that killed three people in August was found guilty today in the Norfolk Courts System. 32 year-old Craig Watson was convicted of three counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. He crashed on the 1800 block of E. Indian River Road; the car went through a guardrail, multiple trees and landed in the front porch of a house. According to reports, Watson and three other men met four teenage girls at the Oceanfront. The group decided to rent a hotel room and drink and party past midnight. One of the young ladies made it safely home, and one of the men decided to stay at the hotel. The rest of the group decided to move to a different location, and Watson took the wheel of his friend's car. Prosecutors said that Watson was driving over 100 mph and that his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit. The defense attorney said that Watson had control of the vehicle until one of the passengers grabbed the wheel and caused the crash. However, the jury still found Watson guilty and recommended a 25 year sentence, with eight years for each manslaughter charge and the maximum one year sentence for the DUI. Watson's formal sentencing will take place in January.
