National "Click It or Ticket" campaign begins today

Ray LaHood, the United States Secretary of Transportation, announced today that nationwide seat belt use is 84 percent, but 45 million Americans still do not use seat belts while riding in motor vehicles.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has said that around 38 people who were not wearing their seat belts are killed every day in vehicle incidents the United States; if they had been wearing their seat belts, about half of those people could have been saved.  In Virginia, about 113 people who were not wearing their seatbelts were killed in motor vehicle accidents between January 1st and May 15th of this year.

The national "Click It or Ticket" campaign begins today and runs through June 6th.
