Rachelle Friedman's life was changed forever last May at her bachelorette party in Virginia Beach. Her best friend and bridesmaid playfully pushed Friedman into the pool, causing the bride-to-be to hit her head and become paralyzed. She suffered a C6 spinal cord injury and will likely never walk again.
Since then, Friedman and her fiancée Chris Chapman have slept in their makeshift bedroom in their living room, since their bedroom is on the second floor of their home. Chapman would carry her on his back to the shower, also on the second floor.
After such a tragedy, the couple now has something to be thankful for. CBS' "The Today Show" has been working around the clock to renovate their home and make it completely handicapped-accessible.
Thanks to the renovation, Friedman can take her own personal elevator to her bedroom. She also has a whole room devoted to her clothes, a handicapped-accessible shower, and a lift that allows her to get into bed by herself.
Though her life has certainly changed drastically since the accident last May, Friedman now serves as the only female player on the Raleigh Sidewinders wheelchair rugby team, which keeps her active. Though the wedding was initially postponed due to expensive medical bills, she and Chapman plan to marry this summer.
