Local authorities believe that speeding and failing to wear a seatbelt resulted in the car accident death of a 31-year-old local woman earlier this week. According to
news reports, a Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound on I-64 in Norfolk at a high rate of speed. Around 3:20 a.m. on April 28th, the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and collided with a jersey wall.
According to
reports, the driver attempted to gain control of the vehicle, but overcorrected her steering and veered off of the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a guardrail, overturned, and the driver was ejected from the car. The driver was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The driver was the only individual involved in the accident.
Local authorities reported that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Car accidents take hundreds of lives throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia each year. They are also responsible for thousands of injuries. Drivers can reduce their chances of being involved in accidents on the highway by following posted speed limits, wearing their safety belts and paying close attention to the roadway, including the actions of the other drivers around them.
