U.S. Senate Candidate’s Son Charged In Virginia Shooting Incident

A 14-year-old boy was arrested earlier this week in connection with a tragic shooting that left one woman severely injured. The 14-year-old is believed to be the adopted son of David McCormick, a Virginia lawyer who is currently seeking the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat that is currently being filled by Senator Jim Webb.

According to news reports, the woman who was shot was Mrs. McCormick’s sister and the boy’s aunt.  The 48-year-old woman is expected to recover despite being shot in the back of the head. A statement released by David McCormick on April 1st indicated that the 14-year-old boy had been living with his aunt for some time. No motives have been reported to explain the cause of the shooting.

David McCormick and his wife adopted the boy from an orphanage in Russia when he was six years old. Mr. McCormick reported in his public statement that the boy had suffered from “serious issues” in the past, which may have still been affecting the boy. The minor has been charged with malicious wounding and shooting while committing a felony.
