Velma Brown was charged with
involuntary manslaughter after allegedly pushing an 83-year-old woman down during a senior citizens event in 2009. Brown allegedly thought that the elderly woman was trying to cut in front of her in line when she pushed the woman to the ground.
The fall caused the elderly woman’s hip to break and she died several weeks later from complications that were caused by her injury. Brown was
arrested and charged shortly after the woman’s death was ruled a homicide. Brown pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter in June 2010.
Brown was later found to be
incompetent to stand trial and is currently obtaining treatment at Eastern State Hospital. At Brown’s April 4, 2011 hearing, the judge
ruled that she will remain in treatment until her next court date which is scheduled for the end of April.
