Josette Winfield was charged with
reckless driving for her role in a school bus collision that took place on March 17th in
Suffolk, Virginia. According to news
reports, the van that Winfield was driving collided head-on with a school bus at the intersection of East Washington and Carver Avenue in
Suffolk. Police officials reported that Winfield had fallen asleep at the wheel while driving.
The school bus was transporting a dozen or more students, grades 2 through 5, to
Driver Elementary School. The local
news reported that six students were taken to the hospital from the accident scene to be treated for minor injuries. Five other children were taken to the emergency room later in the day after being picked up by their parents. The driver of the bus also
reportedly sustained minor injuries but no one on the bus was seriously injured.
Josette Winfield was flown to
Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk following the accident.
Officials believe that her condition is serious, but not life threatening. Winfield’s two children, a five year old and a seven-month-old were also transported to the hospital for treatment.
