Woman Killed In Deadly Portsmouth Forklift Accident

Paula Bellamy, an employee of Ceres Terminals Incorporated, was killed in an unfortunate fort lift accident at APM Terminals Virginia in Portsmouth this morning. The 38-year-old woman was working as a guide to a crane operator when she was struck by a forklift that was operating nearby. Ms. Bellamy died shortly thereafter as a result of her injuries.

One local news source reported that the operator of the forklift was unable to see Ms. Bellamy because his view was obstructed by a stack of containers. Currently, no one has been arrested in conjunction with Ms. Bellamy’s death. While the incident is believed to be an accident, an investigation is still ongoing.

Accidents involving heavy machinery and equipment are often devastating and have the ability to cause serious injury and even death. Due to the dangers involved with operating heavy machinery, employers and equipment operators are required to take proper precautions and use a great deal of care to ensure the safety of their employees and the general public. Employers and operators who fail to follow proper safety precautions may face legal liability for any injuries resulting from their negligent actions.
