Does Virginia recognize "grandparents' rights"?

A: Unfortunately, Virginia courts provide very little legal protection to grandparents who are seeking visitation privileges over the objection of a parent with custody rights. In some cases where it is in the best interests of the child to reside with an alternative guardian, grandparents may be able to have custody granted by the court.
