What is nursing home abuse?

A: The Commonwealth of Virginia has enacted a series of laws that define the actions that amount to nursing home abuse and neglect. Elderly and incapacitated adults are often placed into the care of an assisted living facility because they have special needs that they cannot meet on their own. When a caretaker inflicts physical or mental pain on someone in their care or neglects to provide basic care, those actions are considered to be abusive.
