What is the difference betweena felony and a misdemeanor offense?

 

A: Felony offenses are generally considered to be more serious than misdemeanor offenses. The maximum sentence for a misdemeanor offense in Virginia is generally 12 months in jail and fines up to $2,500.00. If you are found guilty of a felony, you may be sentenced to one year or more in a state correctional facility.
