What is the standard of care in Virginia for medical malpractice cases?

A:

The standard of care defines the degree of responsibility that a medical provider has to his or her patients. If a medical provider or doctor fails to provide this level of care, they may be liable for medical negligence. The standard of care in Virginia is defined in the Virginia Code as “the degree of skill and diligence practiced by a reasonably prudent practitioner in the field of his practice or specialty.”
