Nothing can prepare you for being involved in a serious auto accident in the Tidewater area of Virginia. In seconds, your life is turned upside down and suddenly your everyday worries become so much more complex. How are you going to pay your medical bills? Who is going to repair your car? Will you be able to work again and provide for your family?
You have so much to worry about after a car wreck that we just want to give you three simple tips – if you can avoid making these three mistakes, your auto accident claim will be in much better shape.
Why do we want you to have this information? We’re tired of seeing car and truck crash victims get taken advantage of by insurance companies. Knowing their games will help you protect yourself and your family!
Mistake #1: Giving the insurance company a recorded statement
It sounds like no big deal – your insurance adjuster wants you to give a recorded statement, telling them about what happened in the accident. Why not tell them your side of the story? Don’t fall for this one. The insurance company is desperately hoping that you’ll say something that can later be used against you. Even if you are completely, 100 percent innocent in the crash – don’t do it. You never know how what you say could be misconstrued.
Mistake #2: Accepting a quick settlement from then insurance company
Wow – the insurance company is really taking care of you – look, they sent you this settlement paperwork right away! Hold on there – don’t fall for this one either! Your insurance adjuster is giving you that fast settlement in hopes that you’ll take it and leave them alone – but what you don’t know is that they are giving you less than you really deserve. The way they see it, many accident victims are so desperate for money that they’ll take even a bad offer rather than wait. If this sounds like you, give us a call and let us see what we can do for you.
Mistake #3: Waiting to see a doctor
Hurt in a car or truck crash? Well get yourself some medical attention, stat! Don’t “tough it out”. If you don’t get medical help right away, it won’t look like you were hurt in the crash. Any injury that comes up later will look like it happened after the crash, because you did not see a doctor after your accident so you must have been fine. Always see your doctor or go to the hospital after a serious wreck, not only for your own health but to protect your insurance claim.
