How to File a Nursing Home Abuse Complaint in Virginia

So you suspect that an elder you care about is being abused or neglected in a Virginia nursing home, or you worry that the facility they are in is not properly staffed or maintained. What do you do?

How to file a Virginia Nursing Home Complaint

Complaints about nursing home care are handled by The Complaint Unit of the Virginia Department of Health. There are two ways you can file a nursing home complaint in Virginia:

Remember, the more information you can provide about your nursing home abuse or neglect complaint, the easier it will be for the investigators to do their job.

Should you file an anonymous complaint?

If you are uncomfortable letting investigators know your name, you can file the complaint anonymously. However, if you do so, there is no way for investigators to let you know the results of the investigation.
