An assistant Police Chief is in trouble with the law after she was charged this past weekend with driving under the influence.
In a statement to WAVY.com, Newport News Police say, "Assistant Chief Dawn D. Barber has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest by the Virginia State Police."
State Police spokesperson Michelle Cotten confirms Barber was pulled over by Troopers on Interstate 64 near King Street in Hampton late Saturday night. Police say the assistant chief was booked on a DUI charge and released on bond.
