A late night car wreck near the intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Northridge Drive has taken the life of one man. The accident happened when the driver of a Nissan Altima lost control of his vehicle while heading westbound on Virginia Beach Boulevard.
The Altima smashed into a utility pole, and then spun sideways. There were four people in the car total. The two backseat passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the vehicle. The driver and front seat passenger also suffered injuries, but they were not as severe as the backseat passengers.
One of the backseat passengers, Antoine Lashawn Fulford, 27, died in the accident. The other, whose name is not known, suffered life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Altima, Adrian Black, Jr., 26, of Norfolk, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. Black is currently being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
According to the police report, Virginia Beach police officers also recovered 0.1 gram of marijuana from Black’s car. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, and it is not known if he was also under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.
