On Monday, July 18, a fatal car crash in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach killed Arnold Hope Cason Jr. of Knotts Island, North Carolina. Cason was only 36 years old at the time of the motor vehicle accident.
According to investigators, Cason was driving westbound on North Muddy Creek Road when he veered off the road and hit a mailbox just before Princess Anne Road. In an attempt to over-correct, Cason then crossed back over the road and drove through a field. His car overturned and struck a tree. Cason was the only person in the car at the time of the accident.
Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to the scene of this single car crash at 7:40 PM. Sadly, Cason was already suffering from serious life-threatening injuries when EMS arrived. Although an air ambulance was called to the scene, Cason was too unstable to fly and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. Cason was soon pronounced dead at the hospital.
Cason was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the car accident, and investigators are still trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends impacted by this tragic accident.
