A Hampton man has been charged and arrested in connection to a crash that happened back on November 25. The accident claimed the life of a 26 year old woman.
The crash only involved one vehicle, being driven by the man who was arrested, Naguan Black. Black lives on the stretch of road where the accident happened. He is charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, DUI related.
Black was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima, according to police investigators, when he lost control of the vehicle in the 1500 block of Briarfield Road. As a result, the Altima hit a tree. Black had one passenger, 19 year old Samantha Lynn Bartley also of Hampton.
Bartley, who was born in Newport News, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while Black was treated at the hospital and then released. His injuries were not serious. According to the investigation he had been drinking. No word on whether or not Bartley or Black were wearing seatbelts when the crash happened.
In addition to alcohol being a factor in the crash, investigators also determined that speed was a factor. Black is being held in custody at Hampton City Jail as he awaits justice.
