Clifton Taylor saw his 14-year-old son, Daniel Taylor, die on March 16, 2011. The distraught father could do nothing to save the teenager's life on that dark, rainy morning in Virginia Beach, VA.
According to a local news report on WTKR-TV, the younger Taylor died after being hit by a car when crossing Providence Road on his way to Kempsville High School.
Police say that "poor visibility," dark skies, and rain were contributing factors to Daniel's death.
Virginia Beach schools officials said that they stress traffic safety throughout the year, according to the local news report. However, officials did put out a new reminder for kids to "be cautious" in the morning on the way to school, especially due to the recent time change for spring.
Other teenagers, just like Daniel, were apparently heading to the bus stop in the utter darkness that rainy morning, according to the TV news report.
High school students told a TV news crew that getting to school in the dark can be difficult at this time of the year.
The as-yet unidentified driver who killed the teenage boy is not facing any criminal charges at this time, according to local police. The car crash case is still under investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department's Fatal Crash Team. Those with additional facts are urged to come forward.
