A Norfolk man may face manslaughter charges after contributing to the death of three people in a tragic Norfolk drunk driving accident. The Norfolk commonwealth’s attorney will review the details in the case before making a decision on the charges.
The evidence in the case will be given to prosecutors by Norfolk police when the case report is complete, allowing them to then decide on charges. The case review process could take several weeks. The driver, Craig A. Watson, 30, may face involuntary manslaughter or aggravated involuntary manslaughter charges.
At this time Watson faces charges of driving under the influence after losing control of his car on East Indian River Road. After losing control, he sped into a residential yard and smashed into a home.
There were five other passengers in the vehicle with Watson. Two died at the scene of the crash, Hampton resident Marquita Walker, 19, and Virginia Beach resident Paris Shorter, 18. One passenger died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, Chesapeake resident Karnell Faulkner, 29. The two other passengers in the vehicle managed to survive the accident.
Each charge of involuntary manslaughter can mean one to 41 years behind bars for Waston, if he is charged and found guilty.
