A car accident in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, resulted in life-threatening injuries to an eight-year-old girl, whose name has not been released. The young girl is a student at Princess Ann Elementary School.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., the girl was crossing in the 1800 block of Sandbridge Road in front of Red Mill Elementary; the driver of a sedan hit the girl.
The young girl had just left her father's car and was walking across the street to soccer practice. She was almost across when the sedan struck her on the right passenger's side.
The girl was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is currently in stable condition.
According to police spokesperson Adam Bernstein, the young girl was not crossing the street on a crosswalk and the driver was not speeding. Sadly, the driver just did not see her before it was too late. Bernstein indicated that no charges have been filed against the driver as no laws were broken.
Our thoughts for a quick and full recovery go out to the young girl and her family.
