A serious crash occurred on Sunday, December 4th, 2011, at approximately 2:30 PM in Chesapeake, Virginia. The collision involved five vehicles and sent six people to the hospital.
According to Chesapeake police spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan the accident took place at the intersection of Battlefield Boulevard and Wal-Mart Way. Five vehicles were stopped behind one another at a red light, heading northbound on Battlefield Boulevard, when a vehicle driven by Rosa Nolbia Lopez, 41, of the 2600 block of Yale Court, failed to stop and crashed into the last vehicle. As a result, the vehicles rear-ended one another.
Lopez was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license.
One of the vehicles that had stopped at the red light included a four-year old girl, who was not wearing a restraining device and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver, Humberto Ramos De La Cruz, 31, was charged with driving without a license and failing to secure a child in a child restraint. The young girl is expected to recover.
The other five motorists transported to the hospital were released.
