A motor vehicle accident occurred in Hampton, Virginia on Saturday, September 24, 2011 when a 2002 Chevy Suburban crashed into an ambulance at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and North Armistead Avenue. The collision occurred at approximately 8 p.m. when the ambulance was taking a critically ill 42-year old man to the Sentara Careplex. The patient being transported was from Hampton.
According to the Hampton Police Department, the collision caused the ambulance to flip on its side. Seven people were injured in this motor vehicle accident; six of those injured had non-life threatening injuries; four were from the Hampton Fire Department. Sadly, the 42-year old man died at the hospital.
The investigation is still on-going and the police are currently trying to determine the cause of the accident. The man's identity will not be released until the cause of death is determined.
