Teenager Killed in Virginia Beach Drunk Driving Crash

Posted on Oct 25, 2011

A tragic Virginia drunk driving accident occurred in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach on Saturday, October 1, 2011, which resulted in the death of one 19-year old passenger.

According to police spokesperson Jimmy Barnes, at 1:10 a.m. police arrived at a crash at the 3700 block of West Neck Road. They determined that a 2000 Nissan Xterra SUV, driven by Christopher A. Sell, had run off the road, struck a group of trees on the passenger's side and landed in a ditch. Sell, who is 19 years of age, is from the 2200 block of Rayburn Lane in Virginia Beach. There were also three others in the SUV, including William L. Keipe, 19, of Virginia Beach, who was riding in the backseat on the passenger's side. Sadly, Keipe was not wearing a seatbelt and died as a result of the collision.

Keipe and the passenger in the front seat, who had non life-threatening injuries, were transported to the Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital. The second passenger in the backseat was not injured.

Sell is being charged with driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, illegal possession of alcohol, and possession of an ID belonging to another. According to police, speed and alcohol were factors in the motor vehicle accident.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends impacted by this tragic accident.
