Two motorcycle accidents occurred in southeastern Virginia on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 - one in Norfolk and the other in Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, both drivers died in these separate accidents.
The first Virginia motorcycle crash happened at approximately 1:50 p.m. when the motorcyclist, Julian Ford, a U.S. Navy sailor, was riding his motorcycle in Norfolk. According to police spokesperson Chris Amos, Ford crashed the motorcycle into a guardrail at Terminal Boulevard and Ruthven Road and was thrown from the bike. Ford was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
The second motorcycle crash occurred on West Neck Road near First Landing, in Virginia Beach. The motorcycle, driven by Chris Vargas Lorenzo, 18, of the 3700 block of North Landing Road, crashed into another motor vehicle. According to police, the collision occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. when Lorenzo was heading southbound on West Neck Road. He crossed over the median, colliding head-on with a pickup truck. Lorenzo was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in this accident.
Both accidents are still under investigation.
We offer our deepest sympathies in these sad times to the families of Julian Ford and Chris Vargas Lorenzo.
