A middle-aged Suffolk man died when he headed into oncoming traffic on Saturday, May 28, 2011, according to local news reports.
A resident of the 500 block of Virginia Avenue, 42-year-old Russell James Crawford slammed into an oncoming vehicle around 3 p.m. He had been heading east on the 300 block of West Constance Road, according to local police spokeswoman Debbie George.
Crawford's wife was in the car with him, and she sustained non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Local police reported that the driver of the other car sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk.
According to Crawford's wife, Crawford seemingly lost consciousness before the crash. However, he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, and a physician told local media that he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
