Unidentified Pedestrian Injured When Struck by Truck in Portsmouth

On the evening of Tuesday, December 20th, 2011, a pedestrian was walking in the intersection of Turnpike Road and Frederick Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia, when a truck stuck the male victim. The accident occurred in the 2800 block of Turnpike Road.

According to police reports, the pedestrian was walking in a poorly lit area at approximately 9:00 PM when he was hit by a Dodge truck. The driver of the truck immediately stopped his vehicle and called police. When the police arrived at the scene, the victim was lying in the street unconscious. The victim suffered from head trauma as a result of the motor vehicle accident, and emergency medical personnel transported the male victim to a local hospital Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Officers were initially told that the man had died from his injuries, but the following morning investigators were informed that the victim was, in fact, alive.

According to police spokeswoman Jan Westerbeck, traffic investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened with regard to this motor vehicle accident. The victim’s name and information on his condition have not been released.
