Virginia Beach Man Dies Tragically in Early Morning Crash

A motor vehicle crash in Virginia Beach on Saturday, July 9, 2011, led to the death of Joseph Robert Cooley, who was only 28 years of age. Cooley, from Virginia Beach, died when he crashed his Isuzu Rodeo SUV after midnight on Indian River Road.

Virginia Beach Police received a call at approximately 1:30 a.m. and went to the scene of the single-vehicle crash, which occurred in the 3500 block of Indian River Road. The initial investigation indicated that Cooley was rounding a curve when the SUV veered off the road and hit a tree. Sadly, Cooley died at the scene of the accident.

Further investigation indicated that Cooley was not wearing a seatbelt and that alcohol and speed may have been factors in this unfortunate event.
